About using existing projects as templates for new projects

When setting up a new project, you can choose to use an existing project as a template. Using existing projects as templates for new projects is especially helpful for setting up reusable lists of markups and bid packages. You could even have a template for each market sector that your company specializes in.

In the Template step, you are asked "Would you like to start this project based on an existing project?" If you answer yes, you can begin typing the name of the project. You immediately see the list of projects that match your search criteria.

You can copy the following content from the template project:

  • WBSes

  • Cost Categories

  • Bid Packages

    • Clarifications

    • Phases

  • Alternates

  • All Other WBS Items

  • Estimate Items

  • Markups

Important: Subcontractors and their associated bids are not copied from a template into new projects. To copy everything from an existing project to a new project, including subcontractors and their bids, use the Copy Project option at the bottom of the Summary tab. For more information about copying a project, see Copying an existing project.
